A Spiritual Journey for Men to Mount Athos

A mountain only for men and their spirituality... in fact, it is not only a mountain, it is a whole peninsula in Greece with 20 monasteries and even more small houses, so called Sketes. For more than thousand years now monks live and worship in this remote area, which is dedicated to the Panaghia, the Holy Mother. It is a sacred space which is instilled with the prayers and deeds in greek-orthodox tradition. To enter it, a special visa is required for men from other countries, a so called diamonitirion. Only ten foreign men who are not greek-orthodox are allowed to enter per day, for maximum three nights.
To go there is a unique chance for men to experience pure male spirituality and hospitality at the same time and encounter ones own chances and challenges on the spiritual path.
This is an invitation to a spiritual journey to Mount Athos with fellow men. We will hike and explore together with other men for 9 days: Preparing ourselves for three days, hiking to monastaries for three days and closing the circle collecting the outcomes for another three days.
During the first two days we get to know each other in a place nearby, about one hour away from Thessaloniki, and prepare ourselves with sharing and meditation. Then we go in.
Entering the peninsula by boat, we will stay in Mount Athos for three nights, hiking to three monasteries.
We will stay in simple dormitories with 1 to 10 beds. The monks invite us to stay there at no costs. We eat our meals with the monks.
It is an invitation to receive the gift of men fully.
During these days we are invited to taste a spiritual tradition that lasts for more than thousand years now. How does it feel for you as a man to dive into this special tradition of greek-orthodox spirituality? What is it like to be together with men who dedicated their life to God, receiving their hospitality? How is it like to be apart from distraction of the mundane world–and from women?
I am happy to guide you to Mount Athos and through this experience. You will have the chance to work on your own topics allowing the spirit of Mount Athos to support you. On the first three days each man prepares himself through self-examination, being supported by other men.
After we have been to the holy peninsula and left it by boat, we will stay again in the beautiful hotel near Mount Athos. We have time to share our experiences and find out what we take back into the world with women, men and children.
I see us as explorers of the divine masculine. This energy is needed throughout the whole world.

Closest airport is Thessaloniki, Greece.
Deadline:
To get the required visa for Mount Athos (the diamonitirion, see picture), the registration deadline is six months before the pilgrimage;
Sunday, March 26th, 2017.
At this time a copy of the passport is required to apply for the Diamonitirion and a deposit for the journey to make sure you are part of it.
Maximum participants: 9 men (plus me, since only 10 foreign men are allowed to enter per day).
Costs 9 days:
660 Euros, incl. accomodation before and after Mount Athos in a hotel with view to the mountain (sharing a room with another man), facilitation of the workshop before and after the pilgrimage, organizing and guiding the journey on Mount Athos to the monasteries, transportation from Thessaloniki.
Excluded are flight to Thessaloniki, ferry fees to the peninsula, fee for the special visa, and meals before and after Mount Athos.
